It all started when Teddy had an upset stomach, and I couldn’t find a single store-bought treat that felt "right." I wanted something nourishing, easy on the tummy, and full of flavors he loves. So I pulled out the pumpkin puree , mashed up a ripe banana , and stirred in some oats . Ten minutes later, my kitchen smelled like a doggy bakery, and Teddy was dancing at my feet.
Teddy has a sensitive stomach and a picky palate. I needed something simple, gentle, and packed with nutrition. Pumpkin is a go-to for digestion, banana adds sweetness and potassium, and oats give it structure and fiber. Plus, I can make them soft, chewy, or crunchy depending on what he’s in the mood for.
This recipe became our everyday staple. Easy to prep, oven-free options, and freezer-friendly. It’s perfect for pups of all ages—especially those who love a little sweetness with their health boost.
1/2 cup pure pumpkin puree (no pie filling!)
1 ripe banana , mashed
1 1/2 cups old-fashioned oats (gluten-free if needed)
Optional:
1 tbsp xylitol-free peanut butter
A dash of cinnamon or turmeric for anti-inflammatory boost
No-Bake Version (Soft Treats):
Mash the banana and mix with pumpkin puree in a bowl.
Stir in oats until dough-like.
Scoop into small bite-sized balls or press into silicone molds .
Freeze for 2–3 hours. Pop out and store in the freezer.
Baked Version (Crunchier Treats):
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Mix all ingredients thoroughly.
Spoon onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Flatten slightly and bake for 15–20 minutes, until golden.
Cool completely and store in an airtight container.
Pumpkin is rich in fiber and supports digestion.
Banana : Natural sweetness, potassium, vitamin B6
Oats : Heart-healthy, soothing on digestion, great texture
These are gentle enough for senior dogs and satisfying enough for energetic pups!
You can easily adjust this recipe to your pup’s preferences:
Add shredded carrot or zucchini for extra nutrients
Mix in blueberries or apple chunks (no seeds!)
Swap oats for almond flour for a grain-free version
Use silicone molds to make bone or paw-shaped treats
Teddy knows when it’s "treat day."He lies right by the kitchen mat, watching me stir, mash, and shape. When I open the freezer or oven, he perks up, tail sweeping the floor. These treats have become a shared moment. A way to say, "I see you. I love you. And yes, you’re getting a snack."
No-bake treats : Store in freezer for up to 1 month. Serve slightly thawed.
Baked treats : Store in airtight container up to 5 days at room temp, 10 days in fridge.
Serve 1–2 small treats per day based on size/activity.
Too wet? Add more oats until firm.
Too dry? Mix in more mashed banana or pumpkin.
Not holding shape? Chill dough before shaping or baking.
Pumpkin Banana Oat Treats are more than snacks—they’re my way of saying "thank you" to Teddy for every tail wag, every snuggle, and every time he looks at me like I’m his whole world.
They’re wholesome. They’re simple. And they’re full of the love you put in them.
So if your pup is anything like mine, whip up a batch and watch the joy unfold.
