It all started with Yuri, our spunky rescue pup who thinks the world is her agility course. Training her was... well, let’s just say it required a lot of patience—and treats. But I didn’t love the mystery ingredients in most store-bought options. I wanted something natural, soft, and easy to break into pieces. So, I grabbed her two favorites—banana and peanut butter—and got to work.
Also, Yuri has a sensitive tummy, so finding recipes like these Soft Banana Treats really made a difference.
All simple, dog-safe pantry items:
1 ripe banana (mashed)
1/3 cup xylitol-free peanut butter (natural is best)
1 cup oat flour (or blended rolled oats)
1 egg (optional, for extra binding)
2 tbsp unsweetened applesauce or pumpkin puree for moisture
A sprinkle of cinnamon (great for anti-inflammatory benefits!)
We sometimes swap in ideas from these Pumpkin Banana Oat Treats when Yuri needs variety.
Mash the banana in a mixing bowl until smooth.
Stir in peanut butter and egg until combined.
Add oat flour and optional add-ins. Mix into a dough.
Roll into small balls or press into silicone molds.
Chill in the fridge or bake at 325°F (160°C) for 10–12 mins if you prefer firmer treats.
For fun shapes, we use these silicone molds .

Making these treats became more than just baking—it’s our little bonding ritual. We even make a batch to share with her park buddies!
