Every time I make the treats, my dog knows before I do. The peanut butter comes out, and suddenly he’s sitting at my feet, quiet but hopeful, tail tapping the floor like a soft drumbeat. He watches the oven, then me, then the oven again, as if making sure nothing goes wrong.
When the treats finally cool, I give him one. He sniffs it carefully, then looks up, waiting. One bite, and his whole body relaxes. He chews slowly, eyes half-closed, completely content. When he’s done, he nudges my leg and sits back down, just in case there might be another.
What I love most isn’t how excited he gets—it’s how much he trusts me. Those small, homemade treats mean safety and care to him. And on days when I feel overwhelmed, his quiet happiness reminds me that love often shows up in the simplest ways, warm from the oven and shared without words. 🐾
