Easy, Wholesome, and Tail-Wagging Good

Why I Started Making Peanut Butter Banana Greek Yogurt Dog Treats

It all started with Thor — my golden retriever with the world's sweetest eyes and a serious love for anything peanut butter .

One summer afternoon, Thor had been scratching more than usual. His vet said his skin was a little dry from the heat, so I started looking into ways to nourish him from the inside out. I wanted a cooling, natural, and homemade dog treat to soothe his tummy and skin.

That’s when this magical combo was born. The Peanut Butter Banana Greek Yogurt Dog Treats!  Total win. And when Thor licked the spoon clean the first time I blended it? My heart melted. 🐾

Ingredients You’ll Need

You only need 3 wholesome, dog-safe ingredients :

  • 1 ripe banana (mashed)

  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt (unsweetened and xylitol-free)

  • 2 tbsp xylitol-free peanut butter

🔔 Note: Always use xylitol-free peanut butter — it’s toxic to dogs.

Step-by-Step Instructions

 Prep time: 5 minutes
 Freeze time:
2–3 hours
 Yields:
~12 small treats (depending on mold size)

  1. Mash the banana in a bowl until smooth.

  2. Mix in Greek yogurt and peanut butter until fully combined.

  3. Optional: spoon the peanut butter
into silicone molds or ice cube trays.

  4. After spooning the peanut butter into silicone molds or ice cube trays, pour the blended banana and yogurt mixture over the top to fill the molds completely.

  5. Freeze for at least 2–3 hours or until firm.

  6. Serve one treat at a time and watch the tail wags! 🐾

Nutritional Benefits

These treats aren’t just yummy — they’re functional.

  • Banana – high in fiber, helps digestion

Customizing the Recipe

Want to switch it up? Here are some fun & healthy add-ins :

  • A dash of cinnamon (anti-inflammatory)

  • A spoonful of pure pumpkin puree

  • A sprinkle of crushed dog-safe biscuits

  • Use goat milk yogurt instead of Greek for pups with sensitivities

Bonding with My Dog During Prep

There’s something incredibly peaceful about making treats for Thor while he sits by the counter, watching my every move (and drooling just a little).

It’s our thing. And the moment I open the freezer drawer, he knows. His ears perk up, tail wags start, and I swear he gives me a thank-you look with every bite.

Homemade treats aren’t just snacks. They’re love frozen in bite-size form.

Storing and Serving Tips

  • Store in the freezer in an airtight container

  • Keeps fresh for up to 2 weeks

  • Serve 1–2 treats per day , depending on your dog’s size

Tip: These melt fast! Serve them on tile or non-carpeted surfaces.

Common Issues & Fixes

  • Mixture too runny?
→ Add more banana or oat flour.
  • Hard to remove from mold?
→ Let them sit at room temp 1–2 minutes.
  • Dog isn’t into banana?
    → Try unsweetened applesauce instead!

📌 Final Thoughts

Making these treats is my little act of love.
It takes five minutes, but the tail wags last all day.

Thor isn’t just a pet — he’s family.
And when I make something that’s good for him and makes him happy… that’s all this dog mom needs.
