There’s just something magical about baking during the holidays — the smell of cinnamon in the air, twinkling lights, and a furry little shadow following you around the kitchen, hoping you “accidentally” drop something.
Last Christmas, I decided my dog deserved her own plate of festive treats. That small act turned into one of my favorite traditions — baking (and sometimes freezing) holiday goodies made just for her. This year, I’m sharing my top three easy Christmas dog treat recipes so you can make your pup’s tail wag too.
Why you’ll love them: Crunchy, lightly spiced, and shaped like stars, bones, or Christmas trees.
Ingredients:
2 ½ cups whole wheat flour
1 tsp ground cinnamon (safe in small amounts)
½ tsp ground ginger
1 egg
½ cup unsweetened applesauce
¼ cup molasses (blackstrap, unsulfured)
2 tbsp coconut oil, melted
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment.
In a bowl, whisk together flour, cinnamon, and ginger.
In another bowl, combine egg, applesauce, molasses, and coconut oil.
Mix wet and dry ingredients until dough forms. Roll to ¼ inch thick.
Cut into fun holiday shapes.
Bake 12–15 minutes until firm. Cool completely before serving.
Storage: Store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks, or freeze for 3 months.
Benefits for Dogs:
Cinnamon & ginger : Supports digestion and gives a warm flavor
Applesauce : Natural sweetness without added sugar
Molasses : Rich in minerals like iron and potassium
