It was one of those scorching summer afternoons when my golden retriever, Casey, flopped dramatically onto the cool kitchen floor, panting like she’d just run a marathon. I knew she needed a cool-down treat—something tasty, healthy, and hydrating. That’s when the idea for these Banana Yogurt Peanut Butter Frozen Dog Treats came to life.
We’ve always avoided store-bought frozen treats because they’re often packed with sugars and preservatives. Since Casey has a sensitive tummy and I’m a bit of a dog-mom health nut, I started experimenting with ingredients I already had: bananas, plain Greek yogurt, and xylitol-free peanut butter. The result? A creamy, nutritious frozen bite that she now recognizes the sound of the freezer door for.
If your pup loves a cool, creamy snack too, this recipe is a must. It’s similar to these Frozen Dog Treats with Yogurt and Ice Cube Trays , which Casey also devours.
Like many pet parents, I wanted a treat that was both healthy and fun for my dog. Casey had been getting bored with her usual snacks, and I wanted something she could lick and enjoy slowly—especially on warm days. Inspired by this cool summer treats for dogs roundup, I whipped up my first batch.
1 ripe banana (mashed)
1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt (unsweetened and xylitol-free)
2 tbsp xylitol-free peanut butter
Note: Always double-check your peanut butter is xylitol-free, as xylitol is toxic to dogs.
Optional add-ins for extra health:
A dash of cinnamon (anti-inflammatory)
A few crushed blueberries (antioxidants)
Mash the banana in a bowl until smooth.
Mix in Greek yogurt and peanut butter until fully combined.
Spoon the mixture into silicone molds or ice cube trays.
Freeze for at least 2–3 hours or until firm.
Serve one treat at a time and watch the tail wags!
These frozen dog treats are packed with goodness:
Banana : rich in potassium and fiber
Greek Yogurt : full of calcium and probiotics for digestion
Peanut Butter : protein and healthy fats (as long as it’s xylitol-free!)
Similar to our Peanut Butter Banana Applesauce Dog Treats , these treats are gentle and nourishing.
Want to get creative? Try these twists:
Add pureed pumpkin like in these Easy Dog Treats with Pumpkin Puree
Sprinkle in chia seeds for omega-3s
Swap Greek yogurt for goat milk if your pup is sensitive to dairy
Making these treats has become a fun ritual for us. Casey knows when the banana hits the cutting board, it’s her lucky day. She’ll sit nearby, occasionally offering a paw for taste-testing privileges. It reminds me of the connection we built while trying Easy No-Bake Peanut Butter Banana Dog Treats .
Storage : Keep treats frozen in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
Serving : Pop one out as a reward, a post-walk snack, or just because!
Warning : They do melt—so best served outside or on a floor you can easily wipe clean.
Too hard to bite? Let the treat thaw for 1–2 minutes.
Too runny? Add more banana or yogurt to thicken.
Doesn’t freeze solid? Some freezers need more time; let it sit overnight.
There’s something so simple and special about making a treat that shows love. For Casey, these frozen bites mean more than just food—they’re a moment of joy, a cool surprise, and a sign that she’s cherished. We don’t need a reason to show our dogs we love them, but these treats make it easy.
If your heart (and freezer) has room, also try our Homemade Dog Treats Using Silicone Molds or Soft Baked Pumpkin Oat Bites for Dogs for even more wag-worthy goodness.
Until next snack time – give your pup a hug from us! 🐾
