When I first brought Rocco home, I thought store-bought treats were “good enough.”
Then one day, after a routine treat time, his belly started making those sounds — and the clean-up? Not fun. That’s when I realized many commercial treats are packed with fillers, unnecessary additives, and sometimes even eggs, which can be an allergen for dogs.
Since Rocco can’t have eggs, I started experimenting in the kitchen.
The result? Two egg-free, tail-wagging recipes that are wholesome, simple, and so tasty even picky pups approve.
Perfect for: Dogs who love a little sweet crunch and a boost of skin-loving healthy fats.
Ingredients:
1 cup oat flour
½ cup finely grated carrots
¼ cup unsweetened shredded coconut
2 tbsp coconut oil (melted)
2 tbsp unsweetened applesauce ( try this applesauce treat recipe for variety )
2–4 tbsp water (as needed)
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
In a bowl, mix oat flour, carrots, and coconut.
Add melted coconut oil and applesauce. Stir to combine.
Add water a tablespoon at a time until a dough forms.
Roll into small balls or press into paw-shaped molds.
Bake for 15–18 minutes or until firm.
Cool completely before serving to Rocco.
Perfect for: Dogs who prefer soft, chewy treats — especially seniors.
Ingredients:
1 ripe banana (mashed)
½ cup quick oats ( see more oat-based treats here )
1 tbsp chia seeds
2 tbsp peanut butter (unsalted, xylitol-free) — optional for extra flavor
2–4 tbsp water
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 160°C (325°F) and line a baking sheet.
Mash banana in a bowl until smooth.
Stir in oats, chia seeds, and peanut butter (if using).
Add water until mixture holds together.
Drop spoonfuls onto the tray and flatten slightly.
Bake for 12–15 minutes for soft chews, longer if you want them firmer.
Let cool before treating Rocco.

Swap carrots for pumpkin purée if your pup prefers a softer veggie flavor ( see pumpkin recipes here ).
Turn soft chews into frozen summer snacks by placing dough into silicone molds and freezing instead of baking ( cool summer treat ideas here ).
For training treats, make them half size for fewer calories per reward.
Making egg-free dog treats isn’t just about avoiding allergens — it’s about control . You choose every ingredient that goes into your dog’s body.
Since switching to these recipes, Rocco’s tummy troubles have disappeared, his coat is shinier, and treat time feels even more special because I know exactly what I’m giving him.
