These Fresh Apple Dog Treats are incredibly easy to make, use simple pantry ingredients, and come together fast with no special equipment. They’re a wholesome, homemade way to spoil your dog with a naturally sweet, crunchy snack you’ll feel good about baking.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh apple, finely grated (peeled and cored)

  • 1 ½ cups whole wheat flour

  • 1 egg

  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened applesauce

  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil, melted

  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon (optional, dog-safe amount)

  • 2–4 tablespoons water (as needed

How to make

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  • In a bowl, combine the grated apple, egg, applesauce, and melted coconut oil. Mix well.

  • Add the flour and cinnamon, stirring until a dough forms.

  • Gradually add water, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough is firm but rollable.

  • Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to about ¼-inch thickness.

  • Cut into bone shapes (or any shape you like) and place on the prepared baking sheet.

  • Bake for 25 minutes, or until lightly golden and firm.

  • Let the treats cool completely before serving.

How to store

Store the cooled treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. For longer freshness, refrigerate for up to 2 weeks or freeze for up to 3 months. Always thaw frozen treats fully before serving.

  • Small dogs: 1 treat per day

  • Medium dogs: 1–2 treats per day

  • Large dogs: 2–3 treats per day
