Beef Liver Dog Treats: Why Dogs Love Them!

|
If you’ve ever opened a bag of beef liver dog treats, you probably noticed two things right away:
the smell is strong—and your dog is suddenly very alert.
That’s because beef liver dog treats are considered one of the highest-value treats you can give. Dogs love them instinctively, and for good reason. Beef liver is rich, flavorful, and packed with nutrients, making it perfect for training, rewards, or special moments.
But store-bought treats aren’t your only option. Making beef liver dog treats at home is easier than most people think.
Beef liver is one of the most nutrient-dense foods dogs can eat in small amounts. It’s naturally high in:
Iron
Vitamin A
B vitamins
High-quality protein
That’s why beef liver dog treats work so well for training—dogs find the smell irresistible, and even tiny pieces get a big reaction.
Because liver is so rich, treats should always be small. A little really does go a long way.
You don’t need special equipment or fancy ingredients to make your own treats. Just real food.
250 g raw beef liver
1 egg
½ cup oat flour (or finely blended oats)
½ cup pumpkin purée (plain, unsweetened)
Optional:
A small splash of water if the mixture is too thick
Preheat your oven to 175°C / 350°F.
Add the beef liver, egg, pumpkin purée, and oat flour to a blender or food processor.
Blend until completely smooth. The texture should resemble thick pancake batter.
Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
Pour the mixture onto the tray and spread evenly (about 0.5–1 cm thick).
Bake for 20–25 minutes, until firm in the center.
Let cool completely, then cut into small treat-size pieces.
That’s it.
These beef liver dog treats come out:
Soft on the inside
Slightly firm on the outside
Easy to break into tiny training pieces
Puppies
Adult dogs
Senior dogs
If you want a crunchier treat, you can bake them a little longer or dry them out at a lower oven temperature.
Because homemade beef liver dog treats don’t contain preservatives, proper storage matters.
Fridge: 4–5 days in an airtight container
Freezer: Up to 3 months
Freezing in small portions makes them easy to use as needed.
Keep portions small—beef liver is rich
Introduce new treats gradually
Never add salt, spices, garlic, or onions
Treats should complement meals, not replace them
Beef liver dog treats are popular for a reason. They’re nutrient-dense, incredibly appealing to dogs, and easy to make at home with real ingredients.
When you make them yourself, you know exactly what’s inside—no fillers, no preservatives, no mystery ingredients.
Just real food your dog truly enjoys 🐶💛
