Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour

  • ½ cup unsweetened applesauce (no sugar or xylitol)

  • 1 small apple, finely grated (peeled and cored)

  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1 egg

  • 1–2 tablespoons water (as needed)

How to make

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. Mix dry ingredients in a bowl: whole wheat flour and cinnamon.

  3. Add wet ingredients: applesauce, grated apple, and egg. Stir until combined.

  4. Form the dough by adding water one tablespoon at a time until a soft, rollable dough forms.

  5. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about ¼-inch thickness.

  6. Cut into shapes using bone-shaped or small cookie cutters.
