Prep time

15 minutes

Cook time

25–30 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 cup grated carrot

  • 1 cup finely chopped or grated apple (core and seeds removed)

  • 2½ cups whole wheat flour (or oat flour for a gentler option)

  • 1 large egg

  • ¼ cup unsweetened applesauce

  • 2–4 tablespoons water (as needed for dough consistency)

How to make

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  • In a large bowl, mix the grated carrot, apple, egg, and applesauce until well combined.

  • Gradually add the flour, mixing until a firm dough forms. Add water one tablespoon at a time if the dough feels too dry.

  • Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to about ¼-inch thickness.

  • Cut into bone shapes or simple squares using a cookie cutter or knife.

  • Place treats on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 25–30 minutes, until lightly golden and firm.

  • Allow treats to cool completely before serving to your dog.

How to store

Store the cooled treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. For longer freshness, refrigerate for up to 2 weeks or freeze for up to 3 months. Always thaw frozen treats fully before serving.

Serving sizes

  • Small dogs: 1 small treat per day

  • Medium dogs: 1–2 treats per day

  • Large dogs: 2–3 treats per day

Treats should complement your dog’s regular diet and be given in moderation.
